Anything with a teenage girl protagonist always makes me nervous, but Avalon is a great balance of a “typical” teenage girl (likes Harry Potter, boys, cake) and a more complex character with serious problems (it hurts incredibly as she changes to a dragon every night, she doesn’t know where she’s really from, etc). The relationship between Avalon and Ed, her father figure, is at once heartwarming.
I really liked how this short intro/episode jumps right into a colorful mythology and history of these dragons. You get just enough background to give you an idea of what’s going on, and then it jumps forward to Avalon’s current story.
There are a few editing issues, but nothing terrible. And it’s very short, but it’s enough to catch your interest. I look forward to the next episodes.
